A United Airlines flight from Milan to Newark made an unscheduled stop in Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday after a passenger disturbance prompted a diversion.

United Flight 18 was carrying 274 passengers and 13 crew members from Milan Malpensa Airport. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft landed at Bangor International Airport around noon, where law enforcement officers removed a passenger.

Flight tracking information from FlightAware showed the aircraft departing roughly an hour later to continue to Newark.

Neither United nor the FAA provided details about the passenger’s identity or conduct. When New Jersey 101.5 asked whether police had made an arrest, Bangor police directed the inquiry to the FBI. The agency had not responded by Wednesday morning, when the original report was made.

Passengers shared accounts of the disturbance on social media. One person posting on X alleged that a woman who appeared intoxicated had bitten and kicked another traveler before striking a flight attendant. A separate passenger described shouting onboard in a TikTok post.

The TikTok post also included edited footage appearing to show officers speaking with a woman and escorting her off the aircraft. United and the FAA did not confirm the passengers' specific allegations in the supplied report.

The diversion followed another disruption involving a Newark-bound flight less than a week earlier. In that incident, an American Airlines service from Reno diverted to Baltimore after a passenger reportedly became disruptive and was restrained with duct tape.

Speaking to ABC 7 Eyewitness News, passenger Juan Mejia said the traveler had used racist language and made derogatory comments. Another passenger, Richard O’Lenick, said the man claimed the aircraft would crash and choked a nearby traveler. O’Lenick told the station that he intervened.
